2023 HRC training for new diplomats

On 22 August 2023, the Multilateral Dialogue of Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS)  Geneva and the Universal Rights Group (URG) will provide an in-depth training workshop for diplomats newly arrived in Geneva on the working methods, instruments and mechanisms of the Human Rights Council in order to engage with it more effectively and strategically.

In the context of its reporting on the work of the Council, as well as through conversations with diplomats and observers of the UN human rights system based in Geneva, the KAS Geneva and URG became aware of the demand for introductory trainings for diplomats newly arrived in Geneva on the working methods, instruments and mechanisms of the Council in order to engage with it more effectively and strategically, especially in times of increasing politicisation of the UN’s apex human rights body.

Thus, KAS Geneva, in cooperation with the URG, will provide an in-depth training workshop that will target around 30 diplomats, who have recently arrived in Geneva, i.e., in the last six months (and potentially those dealing with the Council since around one year already). The workshop will take place yearly on 22 August 2023 and will include four sessions. In addition, the training will also provide an opportunity for new delegates to network with peers, as well as other stakeholders working in the Council’s ecosystem.
