Building an international human rights implementation agenda: the emergence and evolution of National Mechanisms for Implementation Reporting and Follow-Up (NMIRFs)
A first-ever regional workshop for dialogue, good practice exchange, and cooperation on NMRIFs will take place in the Pacific in April 2019, to be hosted by the Government of Fiji. It will be organised by the Regional Rights Resource Team of the Pacific Community and the Universal Rights Group, through the UK-funded Pacific Commonwealth Equality Project and with programme support from the Governments of Australia and Sweden. It is being held in cooperation with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Group of Friends on domestic implementation/NMIRFs at the UN in Geneva. The event will take place in Nadi, Fiji, on 11-12 April 2019.
The regional consultation for the Pacific will furthermore consider and, subject to the approval of States, adopt first-ever regional principles for the establishment and development of NMIRFs. It is hoped that, over time and through a process of regional meetings in other parts of the world, this first set of principles will be added to and ultimately contribute to international principles for NMIRFs.
