Transforming universal norms into local reality

Sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR)

Building on previous UNFPA analyses and focusing specifically on how UNFPA’s engagement with the human rights mechanisms has advanced gender equality and empower women and girls to exercise their sexual and reproductive rights and to be protected from violence and harmful practices, URG, in close consultation with UNFPA, is currently tracking and analysing the national-level implementation of key clusters of UN human rights recommendations (generated by the Treaty Bodies, Special Procedures, and UPR).

The report will also contribute to contemporary international efforts to gather and publicise case studies or ‘human rights success stories,’ as part of a wider strategy (strongly supported by the Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres) to build a ‘positive narrative’ around human rights, the UN human rights pillar, and the contribution of human rights to sustainable development and to international peace and security. Moreover, the case studies will help showcase the contribution of the human rights mechanisms’ review processes in advancing the decade of action on the SDGs.
