First Preparatory Glion XI Policy Dialogue

This Policy Dialogue — co-hosted by the Permanent Missions of Thailand and Mexico, with the support of UN Women and the Universal Rights Group, and the first of three dialogues leading up to the Glion XI retreat in October — will focus on:

“Unpacking the Beijing+30 Process and Key Takeaways: CSW69, Political Declaration, and the Beijing+30 Action Agenda.”

The Dialogue will take place on Thursday, 5 June 2025 from 09:30 to 13:15 at the Permanent Mission of Thailand (Rue Gustave Moynier 5, 1202 Geneva).

Glion XI will aim to forge an important contribution from Geneva to the realization of UN Women’s Beijing+30 Action Agenda, which seeks to prioritize high-impact actions to accelerate the implementation of the BPfA and the SDGs at national level, ensure that women’s rights organizations and civil society have the strategic pathways and resources to influence the Beijing+30 process, and ensure that the multilateral system – including the Human Rights Council – better delivers on gender equality, women’s and girls’ rights, and scale up implementation of the BPfA and the SDGs.

This dialogue will set the scene of the Beijing+30 process and its key outcomes: the Global review, the Political Declaration; and the new Beijing+30 Action Agenda. It will aim to foster understanding of the successes, key challenges, and priorities going forward to accelerate the implementation of the BPfA, while assessing how the Human Rights Council and other human right mechanisms can best contribute to this endeavor.

Questions for discussion

1. Has the HRC made a significant normative contribution to elaborating and clarifying the commitments set out in the BPfA?

2. Have and to what extend have the UN human rights mechanisms commented the BPfA by supporting the implementation of women’s rights obligations and commitments?

3. How to further mobilise the UN human rights system to accelerate progress with the realisation of the BPfA?
