At the initiative of the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Morocco and the Permanent Mission of the United States of America, the Geneva Centre for Security Policy will host on Thursday, December 3rd, a Policy Dialogue on “Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism: National Experiences and Best Practices”.
Ambassador Mohamed AUAJJAR and Ambassador Keith HARPER will co-chair this important event which will bring a cross regional group of 25 Permanent Representatives from Africa, the Middle East, the Americas, Asia and Europe and 10 Think tanks active in the areas of CVE and Counterterrorism such as GCSP, GCERF, DCAF, Hedaya, Universal Rights Group, the Center on International Cooperation (NYU) and the Global Center on Cooperative Security.
This meeting, the first of its kind, will address the importance of understanding the concept and practice of CVE, in all its forms, and will pave the way for a holistic and coordinated approach at the international level within and outside the UN system. Best practices that have emerged at the local, national and regional levels will be exchanged so as to address comprehensively CVE at a time where the UN Secretary General and specialized agencies are developing multi-stakeholder plans to address this global challenge.
The Kingdom of Morocco and the United States of America have both played leadership roles in advancing the resolution on Human Rights and Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism during the 30th session of the Human Rights Council. Both countries are part of a core group of States that seeks to advance CVE in the Human Rights Council.
The Policy Dialogue will be held in the context of the two Summits on CVE held in Washington on February 2015, in New York on September 2015 and the regional meetings that have taken place worldwide.
