Strengthening the participation and representation of SIDS at the Human Rights Council

On Wednesday 20th June 2018, the Universal Rights Group, in cooperation with Permanent Missions of the Bahamas and Fiji, will organise a side event in the margins of the 38th Session of the Human Rights Council on ‘Strengthening the participation and representation of SIDS at the Human Rights Council’.

This side event will provide States and Non-State actors the opportunity to raise issues and have an open discussion with two Small Island Developing State candidates to the Human Rights Council on: issues of diversity and inclusivity in the membership of the Council; opportunities and challenges regarding greater SIDS (and LDC) representation at the Council, including as Members; the contribution of the Bahamas and Fiji to the promotion and protection of human rights, and their voluntary pledges and commitments made thereto; the priorities of Fiji and Bahamas if elected.

The Council elections will take place in October 2018 at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The side event will take place in Room V of the Palais des Nations.

The concept note can be read here.
